Prophesy Of Pendor Where To Start
It's really a pleasure going about in the world of Pendor. I had a very slow start where I tried and install my dyeworks and tanneries across the realm, to have a steady base of income, then I had the luck of finding a Noldor shortsword sold by a weapon merchant in Marleon I think, made fights a whole lot easier, well worth the cost.
Suited myself in Barclay armor (dam those things are tough). Then I had the random idea to only recruit Barclay mercenary, and suit up future companions in Barclay armor. It cost me a heck a lot but it's so dam worth it. After numerous victories (Curb stomping, those Barclay guys are like a buildozer force) I finally got offered vassalage under the king of Ravenstern after day 300 or so. My poor village seems to be targeted by the realm's enemies Way too often though. And I cant fend off 2000 Fierdsvain with 120 men, Barclay or not.I wish I could recruit them more easily though, and have access to cavalry since that's what I currently lack only having Barclays.
I know there are some in actual Barclay armies, but it's hard accessing them. Kinda wish you could take a ship and sail to their lands, recruit the army there and go back to Pendor to kick arse! That would be nice, but I guess not having what you want is part of the difficulty. Overall great experience. After several frustrating starts I managed to understand this mod. Its a very different play then what you're used to.
You must learn to avoid a lot of fights and sleep in castles to let big armies pass if possible, but you also have to have an idea about which minor factions patrol which lands because all those little knight bands of 30-50 men will annihilate your early 200men army with 0 losses on their side and they run with 7.0 speed so there is no getting away. I think Empire is best for starting as you have the best archers in the game and there is only small snake cult bands and no hostile knights in your borders. Just do quests and kill bandits till you are comfortable taking on snake cult, which if you have a good horse and a lance you should be able to without problem as their knights suck and wont kill many of your units in their charge but their archers are dangerous and should be priority 1. Also only keep empire crossbows but ditch other empire units later on for they suck and will die ASAP in every fight its like they are magnets for the enemy even the top tier infantry gives many loses every fight and you have to constantly retrain them and its boring. Now onto my thoughts on a few things.- This mod needs a proper money making enterprise system.
Town/city upgrading is not enough, and trade barely exists. You cannot loot and pillage towns for you lose a huge chunk of prestige and honor so you are forced to be a good guy which isn't a problem, but the army upkeep is massive. You are forced to do tournaments which give you nearly 25K which is a ridiculous and a cheap way to give the player the money they need.- Food. I love this mod but it has the worst food in any M&B experience ever.
You have stacks of 30 units of food which the soldiers consume at ultra speed. Any army over 100 men needs all you inventory to be full of food or they starve after going a small amount of distance. I'm real picky about my inventory and its such a pain to constantly, every single minute, open the inventory and move food around so loot doesn't get mixed amongst the food. I have to stop at every village to buy food and its so damn expensive too.
You can buy a horse for 2 pieces of bread, how is that remotely logical?- Lance AI. Cavalry is dead set on lancing you. They exist to lance, lancing is their business and business is good. They don't care about your archers or your infantry or what, if you take the 'aggro' they will chase you around trying to lance you while your army butchers them.
I don't like playing this way but I'm forced to kite them around and occupy them because lances do massive damage in this mod, 400 couched damage, no body survives that. Oh that's a nice 300 thousand gold worth noldor best armor in the game you got there BAAM! Of course I never charge them head on but there's always 2-3 guys who get around and are like homing missiles to your horses behind. You spend so much time getting those damn huscarls so you can have some tanky infantry and they just get 1 shot, its so annoying. Jatu are easy I don't mind them, but those 700 men armies with 300 heavily armored knights I just cannot touch and I don't understand how I'm supposed to do that without setting the difficulty to baby mode and losing 90% of my army, did I miss the catapult somewhere? How do I survive a 100 knights in full armor and lance charge?
Maybe you should have different armies for sieges and for ground combat but that is so niche and such a hustle.- The guy. You're at the supermarket and pop comes the the annoying guy 'Heeeey I totally wasn't stalking you or anything can you help me with something please?' You help him, just as you leave the store 'Heeey man wasssuuup!! Can you help me with something please?' You get home and go to the toilet as you lift the top out comes the guy 'Heeey.'
You get the point. Every 5 freaking minutes that idiot village elder calls me to help with some retarded task. The village is all the way at the edge of the map. If I say I'm busy, OMG HOW DARE YOU, SPAWN OF SATAN!! BOOOM -10 honor -10 rite to rule -50 party morale -5 years life expectancy -10 billion gold.So you either learn like me that you can just say 'Alright I'm coming right now!' And never go, but until you learn that this is generally what happens:'Oh, you were out conquering the entire world and you are the most feared warrior in existence whose 1 slash of the massive legendary ruby executioner sword fells 50 enemies, oh great wielder of pain and darkness, master of the universe we have a problem please help us.
You see, the chickens of our village have started clucking in strange ways and we just do not know what to do please help us!' A) What is this nonsense old man I must go back to my tasks! ( -1 village relations, -1 honor )b) This clucking is the music of the devil and must be purged contact the local knight order immediately. ( -100 gold, +2 village relations, +2 relations with Knights )c) Well those chickens probably just want some pimped out nests, immediately get to building them! ( -500 gold, +5 village relations )d) Tell me old man what came first, the chicken or the egg?
Prophesy Of Pendor Getting Started
Let me take these chickens on my journeys and I will find out ( Party receives 5 chickens )So yeah, please reduce the amount of village cries for help. Also to note my village is the poorest, most crappiest village up the mountains with barely and land or income or riches in the middle of nowhere and for the enemy waaaaaaaaaay behind enemy lines they have to pass like 3 castles and 4 other villages and the Noldor area to get there and yet its the only village in the entire empire that is ever raided. So I hope to have made some good points.
I'm not crying that the mod is too hard or what not but it needs some tweaks to make it more enjoyable more about play style / game features rather then difficulty, thank you for reading.
